Sustainable cultivation

Cultivation and technology

While foraging, certain months of the year are more favourable for mushrooms, yet with modern cultivation we can produce fresh mushrooms year-round.

We aim for the best of both worlds at Myco Curators: supplying you with consistent, seasonal produce.

Biorefineries and biomimicry

In nature, fungi are essential parts of any ecosystem. They decompose a wide range of biological wastes and extract nutrients from these otherwise ignored resources. Because of this, the whole food chain is treated to another serving of nutrients gathered from a single source.

Here at Myco Curators, we aim to follow the fungi's trail and help restore lost nutrients back into our food system - boosting the bioeconomy of South Africa in the process.

Low in, high out

Mushroom cultivation has been referenced by several experts as one of the most effective and sustainable forms of food production. Beyond growing on residual biomass, mushrooms are extraordinarily land-, water- and energy-efficient. These three categories, particularly in regards to other forms of agriculture, are extremely environmentally damaging. Hence we strive to produce the biggest and best mushrooms we can with the least impact in these areas.
